1988 - Gerrard joins Liverpool's academy.

August 1998 - Signs first professional contract at Liverpool.

November 1998 - Makes first-team debut as a substitute in 2-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers.

December 1998 - Steven makes his full first-team debut in Liverpool's 2-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

August 1999 - Scores on his England under-21 debut against Luxembourg.

September 1999 - Recieves first red card for foul on then Everton striker Kevin Campbell. Liverpool's rivals win 1-0 at Anfield.

December 1999 - Scores his first goal at senior level in his side's 4-1 win at home over Sheffield Wednesday.

May 2000 - Makes international debut in England's 2-0 win over the Ukraine.

February 2001 - Recieves League Cup winners medal following Liverpool's 5-4 penalty win over Birmingham City. Score ended 1-1 after extra time.

May 2001 - Wins FA Cup after his side beat Arsenal 2-1.

May 2001 - Picks up a winners medal in the UEFA Cup after beating Alaves 5-4, in which he scored his side's second goal.

April 2001 - Wins PFA Young Player of the Year award.

August 2001 - Gerrard extends his contract at Anfield until 2005.

September 2001 - Scores his first goal for his country when England thump Germany 5-1 in Munich.

October 2003 - Made captain of Liverpool football club.

November 2003 - Signs new contract at Liverpool until 2007.

March 2004 - Named as captain of England for friendly in Sweden. England lose 1-0.

May 2005 - Liverpool come back from 3-0 down at half time against AC Milan to win the Champions' League final on penalities. Gerrard scored the first goal in the 54th minute, which was soon followed up by goals from Vladimir Smicer two minutes later and Xabi Alonso in 59th minute.

July 2005 - Gerrard announces his wish to leave the Anfield club to only change his mind a day later.

July 2005 - Signs new four-year contract, which ties him to the Anfield club until 2009.

April 2006 - Named PFA Player of the Year.

May 2006 - Scores twice, one being an extra-time bullet to equalise for Liverpool in the FA Cup final against West Ham. Liverpool ended up winning 3-1 on penalties.

August 2006 - New England manager Steve McClaren appoints Gerrard as vice-captain.

September 2006 - Makes 50th appearance for England in their 1-0 away win against Macedonia.

December 2006 - Gerrard awarded MBE.

March 2007 - For the first time in an England shirt, Gerrard scores twice against Andorra.
